Chapter One
About what, she wouldn’t know. This was yet the first encounter with a nightmare that felt so real- so pained that it shook her to the bone and sent tingly chills spiraling down her spine.
Time seemed to move slowly as Luna pulled herself out of the warmth and security of her blankets.
In a daze, she moved towards the shower in the small room attached to the outside hallway. Halting before she reached the door, Luna turned and surveyed the room before her: the deep thoughtful violet paint on the walls, a black micro-suede quilt with lavender sheets peeking out of the folds, some scattered clothes that didn’t make the cut on previous days that week, and a few other items that mingled on the thick white carpeting.
She loved her room and the security that it brought her. It was the one place that her parents couldn’t enter. Literally. They couldn’t cross the threshold into her room, and it had been that way ever since she could remember.
That really wasn’t a bad thing- her parents hated her for unknown reasons. It had been like this since her adoptive sister, Erin, disappeared. Luna knew her family had its dark secrets, but she secretly hope Erin wasn’t one of them…
She turned back around slowly to get the shower before the rest of her family. Padding down the hall, she stopped suddenly and watched a dark shadow dart down the hall and down the flight of stairs that separated the living part of the house from the kitchen and the front door.
Seeing nothing after this encounter, she nonchalantly continued on her way, yet double-locked the door to the bathroom just in case. Little did she know that her world was about to change dramatically- and fast!
